WHAT IS MAD HONEY?

Known by the locals as 'wild honey' 'cliff honey' or even 'crazy honey'. This golden nectar is not like your average shop-bought honey.

Sourced from the Solukhumbu and Dolakha regions of Nepal where rhododendron flowers thrive, this honey is unlike any other in the world.

What gives Mad Honey its fiery kick, sweet flavor, and distinct red hue is the almost mythical Grayanotoxin. This magical ingredient has medicinal and psychoactive properties.

The Nepalese variant is particularly sought after for its higher grayanotoxin levels making its effects more potent.

The journey to harvest Mad Honey is not

for the faint of heart.

Honey hunters brave treacherous rainforest trails and mountain peaks to reach the elusive hives hanging precariously from the Himalayan cliffs.

Every jar of Mad Honey is a testament to an

ancient tradition passed down through generations of Nepalese villagers.

Legend has it that Mad Honey was discovered by the warriors of the Black Sea region of Turkey who consumed it before going into battle for strength and courage.

In the Middle Ages, it was a luxury item
coveted by wealthy merchants and nobles who believed in its powerful aphrodisiac properties.

But beware!

Mad Honey should be approached with caution.

Its grayanotoxin levels can be
toxic in excess and lead to negative side effects.

So much so that invading Roman soldiers
into the Black Sea region in 67 B.C were tricked by General Pompey and those loyal to King
Mithridates by lining their path with enticing mad honeycomb.

The Romans couldn’t resist
the delicious sweet nectar of seemingly innocent (and strangely convenient) honeycomb.

The hallucinating army were subsequently picked off with ease by the General Pompey’s men.

PSYCHOACTIVE EFFECTS

Mad Honey UK_Web-11.jpg

Mad Honey is famous across the settlements of the Himalayas for its psychoactive properties and even locals do still approach with caution after tales of the locals over sampling the local produce.

The cliff side nectar protected by wild bees contains the key that unlocks doors and shifts perceptions often collected by the local Shaman and a team of honey hunters that risk their lives to collect the hanging sacks of Rhododendron honey from the cliffs.

Small amounts of mad honey can induce mild hallucinogenic sensations as it stimulates all of your senses.

Under the influence of himalayan cliff honey people may experience feelings of relaxation in the muscles and the mind, euphoria and bodily sensations.

Some people may experience visions and a heightened sense of awareness but each person will have a personal and unique experience.

Like many other psychoactive compounds always proceed with caution and take your time. Do not exceed the recommended dose as grayanotoxin can be harmful in larger doses.
